Does anyone know the title to this song???
The lyrics go something like this.
One cold day in December
a little boy stood on a curb
trying to keep from crying
straining every nerve
Along came a stern old policeman
and said boy why do you cry
The boy said oh please don't arrest me sir
I'll tell you my story and song.
It was only a few weeks ago sir
my stepfather came home every night.
He use to kick me and beat me
my dear mother to fright.
He told me to pack my belongings
and never step foot in his door
That's why I had to leave home sir
and never see mother no more.
Last week I got a letter
saying mother was going to die.
I meant no harm asking for pennies sir
to get to my dear mother's side.
Then come with mew said the policeman
and I'll buy you some new warm clothes
and give to you for your mother
a beautiful big red rose.
